Cooling cost
Estimate an air-conditioner’s monthly electricity cost
A transparent alternative to converting cooling capacity directly into electricity cost.
Use electrical input
Enter rated input watts from the label or a measured value. Do not enter the BTU/h cooling capacity in the watts field.
Duty cycle is uncertain
A compressor does not always draw full rated input. Weather, thermostat settings, insulation, room load and inverter control change the average. Run low, expected and high scenarios.
Validate against the meter
After a normal month, compare the estimate with measured household consumption while accounting for other appliances. The tool is for planning, not diagnosing a meter or settling a bill dispute.
A transparent example
A 1,500 W AC running eight scheduled hours per day for 30 days at an estimated 65% average load uses about 234 kWh. Inside the lower tier, the pre-VAT energy cost is about SAR 42.12. Changing the load factor from 45% to 85% shows why a range is more honest than one forecast.
Build three scenarios
Use a low case for mild weather or short occupancy, an expected case from normal household use, and a high case for peak heat or lower thermostat settings. Keep rated watts and scheduled hours constant while changing one uncertain factor at a time so the reason for the range stays understandable.
Add multiple units carefully
For several rooms, calculate each unit with its own watts, schedule and load factor, then add the kWh. Do not multiply one room by the number of units when bedrooms, living rooms and guest spaces follow different schedules. Apply the household tariff after combining the loads.
When the estimate misses
A large difference can come from incorrect input watts, longer compressor operation, dirty filters, open doors, weak insulation, another household load or a different billing period. Check those observations before concluding that the meter or AC is faulty; electrical and refrigeration diagnosis belongs to qualified professionals.
